AUSTI.’s residency program is a commitment to fostering artistic exploration, research, and creative development. Through dedicated studio access, the programs support artists to investigate new ideas, develop choreographic practice, and create work within a collaborative environment. Residencies are awarded through an open application process and encourage applications from artists of all backgrounds, particularly First Nations, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD), those living with a disability, and LGBTQIA+ communities.

The Satellite Sanctuary space residency is designed to nurture artistic practice, choreographic research, and creative development for emerging to mid-career artists. Recognising that every creative process is unique, the residency provides the flexibility, time, and dedicated studio space needed to support artists at different stages of their practice.

There are two (2) supported residency opportunities available

  1. Refined Project Development (50 hours)

For artists with an established project progressing towards a creative outcome. This stream supports the refinement of existing works and includes a facilitated public sharing, studio showing or presentation at the conclusion of the residency.

  1. Early Stage Exploration (30 hours)

For artists in the initial stages of creative inquiry. This stream provides dedicated time and space to investigate ideas, undertake choreographic research, experiment with new approaches and develop concepts without the expectations of a finished outcome.

The residency aims to:

  • Provide dedicated studio space and time for NSW based artists to advance their creative practice over a three month period

  • Support dance research, experimentation and choreographic inquiry within a nurturing environment

  • Reduce financial barriers to artists development through in-kind studio access and partnership opportunities

  • Foster artistic exchange and strengthen connections within the Illawarra’s creative community

  • Allow artists to elect to participate in a facilitated studio showing, artist talk or informal presentation at the conclusion of the residency

  • Provide professional video and photographic documentation to those artists who elect to share their outcomes
